The National Library and Archives of Timor-Leste is one of the Government’s priority projects within the cultural sector. Following a partnership with an international company, Timor-Leste will see its first ever National Library and Archives built in the next coming years.
This project, of the outmost importance to the country, aims at creating a high quality institution that will support the education system. Besides that, the National Library will be open to the public and will support a national network of libraries across the country.
The expected location for the construction of the National Library and Archives of Timor-Leste is Aitarak Laran, in the centre of Dili. The National Directorate of Culture, in the Ministry of Education, has recently initiated the hiring of 10 new staff for the future Library, and Imprensa Nacional – Casa da Moeda (The National Editorial House, in Portugal) has offered the first 2.500 books in Portuguese to the future institution.
